Summer kicks off with cultural events in AH

It's going to be a busy weekend in Algonquin Highlands on June 28 and 29, with a series of cultural events kicking off the summer season!

On Saturday, June 28, Dorset Heritage Day takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the Dorset Heritage Museum's flagship event of the year, happening on the museum grounds at 1040 Main Street. You can check out Uncle Norm's Tractors, antique automobiles, visit the 35th Battalion, and preserve the memories with a trip to the photo booth! Local vendors will have tables set up, and there will be live children's music at 1 p.m. Don't forget to check out the exhibits inside the museum as well. Dorset Heritage Day is a rain or shine event.

Saturday, June 28 also marks the opening day of Stanhope Museum for the 2025 summer season. The museum, located at 1123 North Shore Road, will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and thereafter will be open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Labour Day weekend. Come and see the 2025 exhibits and don't forget to pick up a jar of the museum's signature citron marmalade while supplies last! Made from citron melons grown in the museum's Heritage Gardens, it usually goes quickly!

On Sunday, June 29, an Arts & Crafts Show and Sale takes place at the Dorset Parkette along Highway 35. There will be a wide array of artists and artisans selling everything from paintings to jewelry to pottery to driftwood and sea-glass art. The show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
