  • October 3, 2024 Council Meeting Highlights
    • The Township had issued a request for proposals for a swing set and accessible pathway to be installed outside the Oxtongue Lake Community Centre, however, the sole bid received was approximately $10,000 over budget. Council willl cancel the current RFP and proceed by way of informal request for quotation, reaching out directly to playground companies for quotations for providing and installing the swing set, in an attempt to bring the project to within approved budget.

  • Arts & Crafts Show at Dorset Recreation Centre on Oct. 12

    The Dorset Arts & Crafts Show takes place Saturday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dorset Recreation Centre and will feature local artisans selling a variety of items. There will be pottery; wood working pieces; images from Muskoka, Haliburton and Algonquin; oil, acrylic and watercolour paintings; quilting; folk art; rugs; candles; diffusers; fused glass ornaments; pendants; and much more! Come and see us in the gymnasium and support the local artisans. There will be sandwiches and pie available to purchase for lunch. 

     

  • AHFS hosts Fire Prevention Week open houses on Oct. 9

    Next week is Fire Prevention Week and Algonquin Highlands Fire Services will be holding open houses at each of its three fire stations on the evening of Wednesday, October 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. 

  • Drop-in basketball at the Dorset Recreation Centre

    You can play drop-in basketball at the Dorset Recreation Centre throughout October and November. Drop-in basketball will be offered beginning Tuesday, October 8 and running until Tuesday, November 26 in the gymnasium at the DRC. Play is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. each week. 

     

  • Short-Term Rental By-Law registration system to be phased in

    While the County of Haliburton's Short-Term Rental By-Law is officially in effect within the Township of Algonquin Highlands as of Tuesday, October 1, 2024, the registration and licensing system for the by-law is not yet operational, and will be phased in across the County's four lower-tier municipalities at dates yet to be announced. 

     

  • Winter hours at waste disposal sites come into effect October 16

    Please note that winter hours at all Township of Algonquin Highlands waste disposal sites will come into effect starting Wednesday, October 16. When visiting waste disposal sites, please remember to bring your Landfill User ID Card with you. The bright pink cards are valid until April 30, 2025.

  • AH now offers lifetime licence for dogs

    An updated Dog Control By-Law for Algonquin Highlands was passed by Council earlier this month. A major change when it comes to dog tags is the introduction of a $20 lifetime licence fee in place of the old licensing system.
