Algonquin Highlands

Planning

The Planning Department is responsible for all building and development in the Township. The two main documents guiding development in Algonquin Highlands are the Official Plan and Comprehensive Zoning By-law. The Official Plan provides an ideological blueprint for the future of the community, while the Zoning By-law outlines the steps to achieve it.

All planning matters are subject to regulations laid out in the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS), and the Official Plan for the County of Haliburton sets the overarching direction for planning activity within its lower-tier Townships. Staff in the Planning Department provide professional advice to Council, staff and members of the public.

The Planning Department can answer questions related to the Zoning By-Law and Official PlanMinor Variance applications and process, and Original Shore Road Allowance closures.
