Algonquin Highlands Votes: 2026 Municipal Election


The next municipal election takes place Monday, October 26, 2026. 

You can ensure you are on the Voters List and that your information is updated here. Your information will be submitted to the Clerk for review. If further information is required, the Clerk will contact you.

The following list, though not exhaustive, provides some of the key dates for the 2026 Municipal Election. 

May 1 to August 21, 2026
Nomination & Third Party Advertising Period


Nomination Period 

Nomination Papers for candidates for the 2026 Municipal Election may be filed, by appointment only, during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM  5:00 PM, weekends and statutory holidays excluded). 

Note: Nomination Papers may be filed only from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on August 21, 2026 (Nomination Day) 

 

Third Party Advertiser Registration Period Begins 

Individuals, corporations, or trade unions may file the prescribed form with the Clerk by appointment only, during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM  5:00 PM, weekends and statutory holidays excluded), to become a registered third-party advertiser. Restrictions apply regarding who is eligible to register. s.88.6(7)

Campaign Period Begins


The Campaign period begins when a candidate files their nomination form. 

August 21, 2026
Nomination Day *Nomination Period Ends


The last day to file a nomination. Nominations may only be filed between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
 

The last day for a candidate to withdraw their nomination if by filing a written notice with the Clerk no later than 2:00 PM.

Certification of Nomination Papers


Clerk to certify or reject nominations by 4:00 PM. 

By 4:00 PM the Clerk shall also declare any candidate(s) elected by acclamation. 

September 1 to October 26, 2026
Revisions to the Voters' List


Individuals may file an Application, including acceptable identification as in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, to make additions, corrections or deletions of own information to the Voters’ List. 

A person may submit an application requesting that a deceased person’s name be removed from the voters’ list. 

September 1 to October 26, 2026
Revision Centre (Municipal Office)


The Revision Centre will be open for eligible electors to check to see if they are on the Voters' List and/or confirm their information is correct, during regular office hours (weekends and statutory holidays excluded), from September 1, 2026, to October 23, 2026 and on Monday October 26, 2026 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Voter Identification Letters Mailed


Voter Information Letters will be mailed the first week of October. If you do not receive your Voter Information Letter by October 16, 2026, please attend the Voting Revision Centre as follows: 

Algonquin Highlands Administrative Office - 1123 North Shore Road

  • Monday to Friday during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from September 1, 2026, to make additions, deletions, and corrections to the Preliminary List of Electors/Voters List to October 23, 2026; and

  • Council Chambers located at the Administrative Office on Saturday, October 17, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Voting Day, Monday October 26, 2026, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Dorset Recreation Centre - 1051 Main Street, Dorset

    From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following Wednesdays:

  • September 16, 2026
  • September 23, 2026
  • September 30, 2026
  • October 7, 2026
  • October 14, 2026

  • Saturday October 24, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Voting Day, Monday October 26, 2026, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Voting Kiosk Location

 


For individuals that do not have access to a telephone or device to cast their vote electronically there will be a computer set up at the following locations and times:

Township Administration Office, 1123 North Shore Road during the voting period, October 16 to October 23, 2026, during normal business hours from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on VOTING DAY October 26, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Dorset Recreation Centre, 1051 Main Street during the voting period, October 16 to October 23, 2026, during normal business hours from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on VOTING DAY October 26, 2026 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voting Day!


Final day that qualified electors may cast their vote up to 8:00 PM. 

Unofficial election results will be released after 8:00 PM. 

October 27, 2026
Election Results


The Clerk will declare the official election results as soon as possible after Election Day.   

November 15, 2026
Term of Office Commences


The inaugural Council Meeting for 2026-2030 Term of Council is to be held at 11:00 AM onNovember 16, 2026. 

December 31, 2026
End of Election Campaign Period


 

March 30, 2027
Deadline for Filing Financial Statements

 


Candidate and Third-Party Financial Reporting must be filed no later than 2:00 PM.

 

April 30, 2027
Reporting of Financial Statements


The Clerk shall publish the report of which candidates and registered third parties filed a financial statement and to be made available to the public on a website or in another electronic format as soon as possible after this date.
