Key Dates


The following list, though not exhaustive, provides some of the key dates for the 2026 Municipal Election.

Revisions to Voter Information


Beginning in January 2024, Elections Ontario became responsible for maintaining the Permanent Register of Elections for Ontario.  

Individuals may confirm, update, or add their information to the municipal and provincial voters’ list online at https://www.registertovoteon.ca/

May 1 to August 21, 2026
Nomination & Third Party Advertising Period


Nomination Period 

Nomination Papers for candidates for the 2026 Municipal Election may be filed, by appointment only, during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM  5:00 PM, weekends and statutory holidays excluded). 

Note: Nomination Papers may be filed only from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on August 21, 2026 (Nomination Day) 

 

Third Party Advertiser Registration Period Begins 

Individuals, corporations, or trade unions may file the prescribed form with the Clerk by appointment only, during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM  5:00 PM, weekends and statutory holidays excluded), to become a registered third-party advertiser. Restrictions apply regarding who is eligible to register. s.88.6(7)

Campaign Period Begins


The Campaign period begins when a candidate files their nomination form. 

August 21, 2026
Nomination Day *Nomination Period Ends


The last day to file a nomination. Nominations may only be filed between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.
 

The last day for a candidate to withdraw their nomination if by filing a written notice with the Clerk no later than 2:00 PM. 

August 24, 2026
Certification of Nomination Papers


Clerk to certify or reject nominations by 4:00 PM. 

By 4:00 PM the Clerk shall also declare any candidate(s) elected by acclamation. 

September 1 to October 26, 2026
Revisions to the Voters' List


Individuals may file an Application, including acceptable identification as in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, to make additions, corrections or deletions of own information to the Voters’ List. 

A person may submit an application requesting that a deceased person’s name be removed from the voters’ list. 

September 1 to October 26, 2026
Revision Centre (Municipal Office)


The Revision Centre will be open for eligible electors, during regular office hours (weekends and statutory holidays excluded), from September 1, 2026, to October 23, 2026 and on Monday October 26, 2026 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. 

Voter Identification Letters Mailed


Voter Identification Letters are printed and mailed to electors for the purposes of casting votes by internet or telephone. An exact date for mailout is to be determined, but voters should expect letter in early October. Notice will be given when letters are mailed out. Please check back for further details. 

Voting Kiosk Location


A voting assistance location will be available for eligible voters to attend to cast their vote electronically if they are not able to do so from their location A computer will be available electors to utilize to cast their vote via internet.   

The Voting Kiosks location will be open for eligible electors, located at the following locations: 

  • Township Office 1123 North Shore Rd, Algonquin Highlands Exact dates to be specified. 

  • Dorset Recreation Centre, 1051 Main Street, Dorset Exact dates to be specified. 

October 26, 2026
Voting Day!


Final day that qualified electors may cast their vote up to 8:00 PM. 

Unofficial election results will be released after 8:00 PM.

Election Results


The Clerk will declare the official election results as soon as possible after Election Day.

Term of Office Commences


The inaugural Council Meeting for 2026-2030 Term of Council is to be held at 11:00 AM onNovember 16, 2026.

End of Election Campaign Period

Deadline for Filing Financial Statements

 


Candidate and Third-Party Financial Reporting must be filed no later than 2:00 PM.

 

April 30, 2027
Reporting of Financial Statements


The Clerk shall publish the report of which candidates and registered third parties filed a financial statement and to be made available to the public on a website or in another electronic format as soon as possible after this date.
