FALL COLOUR VIEWING INFORMATION

The Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower is one of the best places in the province to view the dazzling display of fall colours. During the popular fall colour viewing weekends of October 6-8 and Oct 13-14 the Tower is a very popular destination. Expect traffic delays and extended wait times to access the Tower.

Access and Parking

Operating hours are 9am-6pm. The final vehicle allowed to enter the property will be 4:30pm, please plan accordingly as NO EXCEPTIONS will be made. Visitors WILL NOT be permitted to park at the lower lot and walk up to the Tower after the gates close.

Parking lots are expected to fill early in the day. Once lots are full, no more vehicles will be permitted to enter until space becomes available. If you arrive when lots are full you will be directed to continue driving.

No stopping or parking along the shoulder of Highway 35 is permitted in any place at any time. To avoid the crowds, plan to visit between Monday to Friday. If you do plan to visit on the weekend for fall colours please carpool to reduce traffic congestion and free up parking availability.

With a breathtaking 360 degree view, the observation deck of this historic tower stands 142 metres (465 feet) above Lake of Bays.

The Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower Park is operated and maintained for your enjoyment by the Township of Algonquin Highlands.

The Dorset Scenic Lookout Tower is located off Highway 35 just north of the village of Dorset.

The original tower was built in 1922, was 25 metres high (82 feet) and used as a fire lookout tower until 1961. The current tower was built in 1967 and is 30 metres high (100 feet) and was erected for visitors to enjoy the view.

Annually, more than 10,000 vehicles (60,000 visitors) will pass through the gates. In the peak Autumn season, it is not unusual for more than 600 vehicles to visit the tower in a single day.

Visitors are welcome to climb to the observation deck, which is 142 metres (465 feet) above Lake of Bays, and enjoy the view from the tree-top lookout as well as ground level lookouts

Facilities include picnic sites, restrooms, a tourist information kiosk, a gift shop and a hiking trail.  Click here for a printable copy of the Dorset Scenic Tower Trail map.

The Tower is a "use at own risk" attraction. High risk use of the Tower and mountain is not permitted.
