There is so much to do in Algonquin Highlands! The Township offers a wide array of indoor and outdoor recreation programs all year long for all ages, interests and abilities. 

Programs

July 2 to August 20, 2024, Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Stanhope Soccer League is a fun, non-competitive, skills-building, outdoor league for children aged 4 to 11, running through July 2 - August 21, 2024, at Stanhope Gardens. The cost of this 8-week program is $ 47.15 per child and includes a shirt, team photo and end of the year celebration. Registration opens April 15, 2024. Please note: Spaces are limited.

First Wednesday of the Month

The Dorset Book Club meets virtually once a month on the first Wednesday of the month from 1 to 3 p.m. All are welcome!

Third Wednesday of the Month

Coffee and Conversation takes place online via Zoom on the third Wednesday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m.. New in town and want to meet new people?  Coffee and Conversation is a great way to connect with community members. Everyone is welcome to join. Just make your own coffee and join us for a social time!

Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon, Stanhope Firefighters' Community Hall 

Come out and join in the fun with instructor Jacqui Bell. This class is a great way to exercise the body and soul while having fun.  All levels of ability welcome, including beginners. The cost per class is $10.00 per person.

Fridays from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., Stanhope Firefighters' Community Hall

Moving meditation, tai chi incorporates stretching and turning in a sequence of movements. Taoist Tai Chi is specifically designed to improve health. It can bring a wide range of health benefits to the muscular, skeletal, and circulatory systems. In the process, it contributes to better balance and posture, increased strength and flexibility, and calmness and peace of mind.

Fridays from 11 a.m. to noon, Stanhope Firefighters' Community Hall

The basic beginner session is literally just the beginning.  It is an introduction to the movements through a low impact, developmental process, and people of all ages and abilities can learn and benefit from it. Some participants only take the initial session out of curiosity, many continue practicing for the rest of their lives.

Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m., Stanhope Firefighters' Community Hall

Join Ginger Kulas at the Stanhope Firefighters' Community Hall on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. to learn the history of "pysanky," the meaning of the symbols and to create a beautifully decorated egg using the wax resist method with beeswax and a "kistka." Space is limited, preregistration is required. This activity is geared to adults with a minimum age requirement of 10. Please note if youth are registering, they must be accompanied by an adult. The costs is $7.00 + HST per person.

Saturday, July 6 from 9 to 11 a.m.

The Dorset Kid's Fish Derby is for children ages 16 years and under.  Lots of prizes, come with your lucky fishing rod, hat, socks and have fun with your choice of outfit for the day. The event will take place at the Dock downtown by the main street bridge in Dorset. Cost per participant $3.00 All you need to bring with you is a fishing rod.

Oxtongue Lake Community Yard Sale

Saturday May 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Oxtongue Lake Community Centre

While you are doing your spring clean-up consider items that you could sell at the Community Yard Sale. Rent a table for $5.46 plus HST and join us at the Oxtongue Community Yard Sale. The sale will run from 9 a.m. to noon at the Oxtongue Lake Community Centre. Set-up will begin at 8 a.m. All unsold items need to be cleaned up and taken with you by 1 p.m. Space is limited - first come, first served!

Dorset Community Yard Sale

August 3, 2024, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the parking area of the Dorset Lions Centennial Park, 1054 Main Street Dorset

Tables are available for rent to sell household yard sale items at $5.46 plus HST per table. Tables are six feet long. Set up begins at 8 a.m. and all items must be removed by 2 p.m. Space is limited - first come first served!

Saturday, June 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New vendors welcome!  The sale is in the Dorset Parkette on Hwy 35 across from the Dorset Recreation Centre. Vendors must provide their own tables and chairs for the show and are responsible for their own set up and clean up.

Exhibitors with similar merchandise will be limited at the discretion of the Algonquin Highlands Parks, Recreation & Trails Department. No manufactured/retail goods will be allowed - products must be made by you.

Exhibits must be taken down by no later than 4 p.m. Exhibitors must stay for the entire sale.
