Little Brother Lake Dam Replacement Project
Please note Parks Canada is moving forward with the replacement of the Little Brother Lake Dam in the Township of Algonquin Highlands as part of its ongoing investment in critical infrastructure along the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.
The project will replace the existing dam with a new reinforced concrete structure on the same footprint. The replacement will maintain the existing operating parameters and is not expected to change normal water levels on Little Brother Lake.
Construction is expected to begin November 2, 2026, and continue through 2027. Work will include:
- installation of temporary cofferdams and isolation systems;
- dewatering of the construction area;
- fish salvage and relocation activities, if required;
- removal of the existing dam;
- excavation to competent bedrock;
- construction of a new reinforced concrete gravity dam;
- installation of new stoplog operating equipment, a deck and catwalk; and
- site restoration, including vegetation rehabilitation and environmental monitoring.
The Little Brother Lake Dam is part of the reservoir system that supports water management operations on the Trent-Severn Waterway. While the dam is operated only occasionally, it plays an important role during periods of high water and seasonal water management operations.
Parks Canada will provide regular project updates through a dedicated project webpage and direct communications with interested stakeholders.
