Composting in Cottage Country: Start Out Right

With a new gardening season upon us, a reminder that the ideal ratio of materials in your compost pile is 1/3 greens to browns.

"Greens" are wet, nitrogen-rich materials such as grass clippings, vegetable and fruit scraps and coffee grinds, while "browns" are dry, carbon-rich items such as fallen leaves, wood chips or dry plant material.
