The Planning Department responsibilities relate to building and development in the community.
The Official Plan and Comprehensive Zoning By-law are the two main documents that guide development in Algonquin Highlands. The Official Plan outlines what we want to be and the Zoning Bylaw outlines how we do it.
All Planning matters get their start at the provincial level through the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS). The County of Haliburton Official Plan sets out the over-arching direction for Planning at the lower tiers.
Planning Department staff provides professional advice to Council, staff and the public.
The Planning Department can answer questions related to the Zoning By-Law and Official Plan, Minor Variance applications and process, and Original Shore Road Allowance closures.
