A celebration of heritage trades, crafts and arts.
Stanhope Heritage Day is an annual event held on the third Saturday of July at the Stanhope Museum Grounds at 1123 North Shore Road, Algonquin Highlands. You’ll want to arrive when the day begins at 9 am. to enjoy all the demonstrations and activities the day has to offer.
Celebrate our heritage with local folks demonstrating historic arts, crafts and trades such as maple syrup making, pottery, tatting, basketry, spinning, weaving, wood carving and rug hooking. See displays of antique cameras, vintage cars, quilts, and antique rifles. Learn local history from the genealogy society and the portable library. Take a tour of the Stanhope Museum and see the fabulous displays of days past.
There are lots of fun filled activities for the kids, too. They can meet the farm animals, take part in traditional games and create some heritage crafts to take home. Speaking of Wildlife presents a variety of creatures native to Ontario. A show not to be missed!
While strolling through the grounds there’s always a live band or two for your listening and dancing pleasure and a delicious BBQ lunch available. The Bake Sale starts at 10 am and if you’re lucky you’ll be able to take home some of the winning Butter Tarts submitted for the Butter Tart contest. Want to enter the contest to win a beautiful handmade bowl from Homestead Pottery? Check out our website at www.stanhopemuseum.on.ca for information on how to enter the Butter Tart Bake Off and a full itinerary of what you’ll find at Stanhope Heritage Day.
