Subject:  COVID 19 Update - Trails, Cemetery Visitations and Cottage Kits

The Township of Algonquin Highlands remains under a declared State of Emergency.

The Algonquin Highlands Emergency Control Group met earlier today to continue its assessment of the rapidly-evolving COVID-19 pandemic situation and its potential effects on Algonquin Highlands.

Updates from today’s meeting include information on the hiking trails, cemetery visitation requirements and cottage kits.

NEW INFORMATION

  1. Algonquin Highlands hiking trails will open for public use on Friday, May 15, 2020 with the exception to the Dorset Tower trail as it leads to a closed facility within the Township (Dorset Tower).
  2. The Township of Algonquin Highlands cemeteries are open. The Township would like to remind individuals wishing to visit the cemeteries, to please adhere to the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act regulation limiting gatherings to five people.
    People must also follow these COVID-19 restrictions:
    • For funeral services at the gravesite, there can be no more than 10 people, not counting funeral staff – but only for funeral services. Otherwise, five is the maximum.
    • Physical distancing between people, of two metres apart, must be practiced at all times by everyone in the cemetery.
  3. Cottage kits are not available for purchase at this time.

REMINDERS:

  1. Fire Ban: An MNRF Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ) remains in place across the entire fire region of Ontario, including Algonquin Highlands.  This means no open air fires including burning of grass, debris, campfires or fireworks.  Charges and /or fines are being enforced at $485.00 per fire truck, per hour.
