COVID-19 Impacts on Parks, Recreation and Trails servicesUpdated March 31, 2020 5:30 pm

During the COVID-19 pandemic and particularly with regard to the Province’s Emergency Declaration the following measures have been put in place for the Parks, Recreation and Trails Department:

Parks, Recreation and Trails  

  • The Algonquin Highlands Trails office at 20130 Highway 35 will remain closed to the public until further notice, effective March 18, 2020. Staff are available to answer phone and email inquiries at 705-766-9033, trails@algonquinhighlands.ca;
  • All parks, playgrounds and trails are closed effective immediately.
  • All outdoor recreational amenities, such as sports fields, playgrounds, picnic areas, basketball and tennis courts, park shelters and other outdoor recreational amenities effective March 31, 2020.
  • All campsites are closed.  Currently we are not accepting new reservations however; we will re-evaluate the acceptance of campsite reservations on April 30, 2020.
    • Prior bookings for campsites between March 25 - April 30, 2020 will be refunded.
  • Dorset Recreation Centre Memberships – membership fees will be adjusted once the recreation centre reopens.
  • Scheduled recreational programs and events will be reviewed and decisions regarding cancellation will be made in 30-day blocks
  • Equipment rentals are not available.
  • Public washrooms remain available at the Dorset Parkette, Elvin Johnson Park, Stanhope Courts and Playing Field as well as our Water Trail access points.  Although these facilities are regularly checked and cleaned, users are asked to undertake appropriate hygiene protocols.
  • The recreation centres located at Stanhope, Dorset and Oxtongue remain closed until further notice, phone and email inquiries available at 705-766-9968, recreation@algonquinhighlands.ca,
  • Summer program registrations will continue as typically scheduled, through phone or on-line registration.  Soccer is the only program currently accepting registrations online;
  • Public Wi-Fi hotspots remain available outside the Stanhope, Dorset and Oxtongue Community Centres.
