The Township of Algonquin Highlands is excited to present the BIG RED bin, a
convenient way to dispose of
- single-use/disposable batteries
- rechargeable batteries
- cell phones, and
- compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs
Look for the BIG RED bin next to the ReUse building at the Maple Lake and Oxtongue Landfills, and inside the ReUse Building at the Dorset Landfill. These items are accepted free of charge, year-round (plus during regularly scheduled Household Hazardous Waste day events). Algonquin Highlands residents only.
Scrap TIRES are now accepted FREE!
Tired of those old tires cluttering up your garage, shed or back yard? Collect them up and bring them in FREE OF CHARGE to the MAPLE LAKE LANDFILL or OXTONGUE LANDFILL only. They will be recycled into products used to manufacture sports fields, running tracks, playground surfaces and molded products for the garden and car. Tires must be off rims. Regular landfill hours of operation apply. Algonquin Highlands residents only.

Algonquin Highlands residents can now drop off the following unwanted e-waste FREE OF CHARGE at the Maple Lake, Dorset or Oxtongue Landfill sites for recycling*:

BOAT SHRINK-WRAP
The Township of Algonquin Highlands will be accepting boat shrink-wrap at all Algonquin Highlands landfill sites for the 2009 BOATING SEASON ONLY. A tipping fee of $20 per cubic yard will be charged. The material MUST be clean and free of foreign material. Contaminated or dirty material will not be accepted. Effective January 1, 2010, boat shrink-wrap WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED at any Algonquin Highlands landfill for recycling or disposal.

MANDATORY USE OF CLEAR PLASTIC GARBAGE BAGS– January 1, 2008
Clear plastic garbage bags have proven to be an effective way of reducing the amount of recyclable materials that get thrown away with household garbage.
Effective January 1, 2008, clear plastic garbage bags will be mandatory for the disposal of household garbage at all landfill sites within the Township of Algonquin Highlands. Clear garbage bags are available for purchase at most local grocery, home building, and department stores.
Mandatory recycling is still in effect.

RECYCLING BLUE BOXES are now on sale for $10.00 each (tax incl.) to ratepayers of the municipality.
Boxes may be obtained at the Municipal Office on North Shore Road, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Dorset Satellite Office, Main St. Dorset, Tuesday or Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or at any Township of Algonquin Highlands landfill site.
Residents of the Township of Algonquin Highlands are
restricted to using Municipal Landfill and Recycling Centres in the geographic
township where the property is located as outlined:
